Frequently Asked Questions

Can I check in yet?

We know you’ll be exhausted from travelling which is why we let you check in as soon as the rooms or beds are ready, usually by 3pm. In the meantime, you are welcome to relax in our bar, restaurant, garden terrace, or visit our impressive grey-water recycle unit on our ground floor. You can also store your bags in our luggage room.

up

When do I have to leave?

We kindly ask guests staying in shared rooms to check out by 11am. For guests staying in private rooms, please check out by noon. Of course, we welcome you to stay longer and relax in our bar, restaurant, lounge, or garden terrace. Luggage storage available.

up

What does the price include?

Just because you can’t see them doesn’t mean they’re not there - taxes! In addition to regular taxes there is also a per head “tourist tax” in Prague, but you don’t have to worry about it because it’s all included. Likewise we don’t think our beds would be very comfortable if we didn’t put linens on them, so the price includes:

  • shared rooms: taxes, linens
  • private rooms: taxes, towels, linens

up

How can I pay?

The mighty Czech Koruna (or “crown”) or the even mightier Euro (at our current in-house exchange rate) are both accepted, as are credit cards (at no incremental fee). We also have an ATM in house.

Are there any discounts (i.e. for ISIC cardholders) or extra perks for staying at Mosaic House?

Okay, so maybe this isn’t a frequently asked question but we wanted to tell you the answer anyway. Just by having one of our customized Mosaic House maps, you’ll have access to discounts and special deals in selected restaurants and shops around Prague.

Also, ISIC card holders receive a 5% discount for bookings made via our booking engine or by email. Mention your ISIC card in the comments field and we will subtract the 5% from the final price immediately. If you want to make a booking or check our rates, please feel free to enter your information in the bar above and click “book now”. You must show your card at check in, in order to receive the discounted rate. For more ideas before you arrive, check out ISIC.

up

Will Mosaic House accept my Euros or exchange Euros for Czech crowns?

In a word, yes. We use an in-house exchange rate of 23 CZK to 1 EUR (subject to change). This service is available as long as the receptionist has sufficient currency.

up

I don’t have a credit card. Can I still make a reservation?

Sure. If you do not have a credit card or cannot use one to secure your reservation, we also accept advance payment through a bank transfer. You might also be able to make a non-confirmed reservation, whereby you must call or email to confirm two days before your arrival. This also requires that you arrive by 3pm or call again to reconfirm. This option is only available in certain situations, so email us and we’ll see what we can work out for you: info@mosaichouse.com.

up

I need a visa for the Czech Republic. Can Mosaic House fax my reservation confirmation to the embassy so I can apply?

Yes. If you require a letter confirming your reservation with our company stamp and signature in order to apply for a visa, please allow up to 3 days’ time for us to prepare it. We also require a non-refundable pre-payment for your entire accommodation. To find out whether you need a visa to visit the Czech Republic you can visit this website: Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic

up

Are the shared dorm rooms mixed-gender?

Not all of them. We also offer a ladies-only dorm room. Designed especially for the ladies (by our two female designers!), our ladies-only dorm is spacious and offers custom-designed furniture under a cool ladies-only roof. It’s like one big slumber party. No boys allowed. Please specify if you’d like to stay in this room when booking via website, email, or phone. Otherwise, if you wish to stay in a single-gender room, you will need to book a private room.

up

We’re travelling as a small group - can we stay in the same room?

This is why Mosaic House created private rooms. In other words, a private room is the only way to ensure that you will be together. If that’s not possible, booking under one reservation will increase your chances of being in the same room. And if you’ve booked separately, you can still try emailing us to let us know your preference. We will do our best to accommodate you but we can’t guarantee it.

up

Can I have breakfast at Mosaic House?

Of course! Breakfast is served each morning from 7am through 11:30am offering warm and hearty options as omelettes and egg scrambles, pancakes and fresh fruits, organic yougurt and homemade muesli, fresh breads from our local bakery, and extras as you please. Prices range from 75kc for our lightest breakfast to 190kc for the more filling with lattes, cappuccinos, espressos, and nice teas to pair.

How does public transportation work in Prague?

The basic principle is that tickets are purchased and validated with a time-stamp by punching it in a little machine on the tram or bus, or before entering the metro. Tickets are generally time-based and can be purchased from yellow machines in the metro and at some tram stops, or in most newspaper and tobacco shops.

In buses, which mostly run in the less central parts of town, tickets can be bought from the driver, though they are slightly more expensive. If you have a Czech mobile phone, you can buy a 90-minute transfer ticket by sending “DPT” to 9020626.

The metro runs from 5am to midnight. Depending on the day and time, metros can be 3-9 minutes apart. Day trams also operate from 5am to midnight. From midnight to 5am, you can catch a night tram on most high-traffic tram routes, as well as night buses. Night trams (and only night trams) are numbered in the 50s (i.e., 51, 52, etc.) and the number is marked in a different colour on the schedules.

The most common ticket types are:

  • 24 CZK (30 minutes, one mode of transportation)
  • 32 CZK (90 minutes, multiple modes of transportation)
  • 110 CZK (24 hour pass, unlimited use of public transportation)

up

Can you come pick me up at the airport?

We will confirm your request with our driver and send you a confirmation email. For requests on the same day please call the driver directly at +420 774 413 347.

How is Prague for taking a taxi?

In general, taxis have a bad reputation in Prague due to dishonest drivers using various tricks to overcharge their passengers. The city has been trying to fight this problem by installing taxi stands and performing spot checks. The situation has improved, but it’s best to be careful by using an established and reputable company like AAA RadioTaxi, Tick Tack or CityTaxi. They are not overpriced and the operators speak English, just dial 14014 for AAA RadioTaxi or +420 721 300 300 for Tick Tack.
