Best Places for a Cold Beer
Now that fall weather’s well and truly replaced the heatwave of yesteryear, we’re more into staying indoors & cozying up in front of the fireplace (if we had one, that is…). :) BUT there’s one thing that Czech people love doing, rain or shine. We can credit our forefathers for starting this magnificent tradition, which has been upheld for generations and generations… You know, the one that we should all respect and cherish…
GOING TO THE PUB FOR SOME COLD, COLD BEER.
Yup, you heard us. There’s nothing Czech people love doing more than sitting down with some friends & gulping down a fresh, cold beer. Don’t fight it folks – if you want to be one of the Czechs, you’ll need to be initiated sooner or later! And this is why we handpicked a few places where – we think – this initiation will go down preeeetty smoothly.

Na Perštýně 345/7, 110 00 Prague 1
Let’s get started off with a place that’s famous for its old-timey atmosphere, shall we? And when we say old-timey, we mean it – this place was founded in 1466 (yeah, that’s pretty old, even to us Prague folk). We love this place because – let’s admit it – even though it’s swarming with tourists, it’s still got that old-school feel & you can get their microbrewery beer on tap. PLUS, you can also get super creative & brew your very own beer here! The latter will cost you a weeee bit more than a mere pint, but it sounds pretty cool!
V jámě 1671/7, 110 00 Prague 1
Um, did anyone say BEER TASTING? Yes please! If you’re a bit indecisive and/or don’t want to stick with a Pilsen or Staropramen beer (not that there’s anything wrong with that – traditionalists, we salute you!), head to Jáma. Located in a small street near Wenceslas Square, this place is perfect for an eclectic group of friends – we’re pretty sure EVERYONE fill find something to their liking here. We also love the fact that their beer tasting focuses on beers from Czech microbreweries that you won’t be able to find anywhere else. Cheers!

Ječná/Lípová 15, 120 44 Prague 2
So the first two places are totally legendary. BUT we thought we should include a place that does not always show up in all the travel guides on our list as well. And THEN we thought… we’ve had enough of normal beer. We want to try something different, something crazy! So what did we come up with? Pivovarský dům! I mean, where else will you get banana beer (yes, you heard right)? This also doubles as a Czech restaurant, so perfect for those days when you’ve got the munchies… and want to have some banana beer. Yeah, mainly the banana beer.

Náprstkova 10, 110 00 Prague 1
This is a café/pub/really cool place. But seriously, folks… we love this place. It’s got a bit of a hipster vibe – the advantage of the latter being the fact that it’s marked by an unmistakably cozy atmosphere. The only downside is the fact that this is not a non-smoking place (sigh)… but we bet the Midnight Pickled Cheese (not kidding! This is a true Krásný ztráty staple) will make up for that. Oh yeah, they’ve got beer as well. :)

Craving a good old American burger & some fine American ale to go with? Check out The Tavern – a favourite burger joint with expats and locals alike. They have American-style Czech beer, so you can have the best of both worlds! Plus, their burgers are to die for (and they’ve got a few veggie options too – we love them for that :).
Dlouhá 33, 110 00 Prague 1
This is one of those rare places where you can meet locals, expats AND tourists. AND what makes it even more special is the fact that it’s so centrally located (the Old Town Square is just a stone’s throw away). This place is also perf-fect for large groups! Oh yeah, they’ve also got delicious Czech food – fried cheese, “čevabčiči“ (don’t even try to say it – just try it!), or good old sausage & homemade mustard. Um, why aren’t we there like RIGHT NOW?
Husova 228/17, 110 00 Prague 1
We had to round this list off with a good old, no-tricks-up-their-sleeve, Czech pub. The kind of pub where it’s not about the fancy beer selection. The kind of pub where it’s not about the snazzy interior. The kind of pub where, as soon as you walk in, you’ll get served a pint of beer – no questions asked. This place kind of feels like home, ya know?
Photos like this one warm our hearts :)
