Prague Travel Writer ‐ Krystina Svobodova

The autumn has definitely arrived and it suits Prague just perfectly. The city is covered with crunchy yellow, red and purple leaves ‐ a sight that’s especially spectacular on the river islands and up on Petrin hill. Jumping around in these leaves could entertain me for hours but if you want to add something else to your time in Prague this month, I’d recommend any and all of the following.

Agharta Jazz Festival ‐ October 6 to November 1, 2010

The autumn part of Agharta Jazz Festival is a favourite of mine. The season seems to fit just perfectly and the weather makes you want to sit in a jazz bar with a great atmosphere and even greater music. In this montage you might even have a glass of whisky in your hand. It’s entirely up to you! Agharta bar is the right place to make this dream a reality. It was opened one day after the death of Miles Davis ‐ the pioneer of modern jazz and is named after his most important album, from 1970. The club is in the cellars of an old building with bare brick walls ‐ so you get a real old school feel. At the Agharta Jazz Festival you guys can enjoy a number of concerts ‐ including the return of master drummer Jojo Mayer, bassist Marcus Miller and trumpet player, Christian Scott. The tickets are 350 CZK per concert and are available through Ticketpro offices.

Biffy Clyro ‐ October 29, 2010

Here’s something for anyone who’s a fan of red hair and Scottish accents. Biffy Clyro are three chaps from Kilmarnock ‐ known internationally for their energetic live performances and better yet, they’re finally coming to Prague! They’ve been on fire since 2007 when they released their album Puzzle. This went gold in the UK and sold over 100,000 copies. If you come to Lucerna Music Bar on October 29, you can haer all of their biggest hits including Saturday Superhouse, Machines, The Captain and more. Front man Simon Neil is also famous for taking his shirt off during the shows ‐ which sounds like a plus to me! Tickets are 385 CZK and available through Ticketpro offices.

The Cinematics ‐ October 9, 2010

I don’t want to seem biased or anything but here’s another Scottish band. The Cinematics are a young alternative rock act from Glasgow and they’re set to tour Europe with their third studio album. They put on an awesome free show at the United Islands of Prague Festival last summer and rocked a pretty big crowd in the process. They’re back on October 9 and this time they’re on the club scene ‐ at the MeetFactory. Get your ticket for 240 CZK through the Ticketpro offices.

The Chippendales ‐ October 3, 2010

No I’m not talking about the squirrels but you probably knew that. The Chippendales are a professional group of male dancers with muscles, bowties, boots and white sleeveless shirts. A lot of this doesn’t stay on for long. Their shows are popular all over the world but they keep coming back to Prague, so if you can’t catch them in their home theatre in Las Vegas ‐ where they sell out their shows 6 days a week all year round ‐ this is your chance to see them in action. If you happen to be in Prague on October 3, just tell your boyfriend you need a night for yourself! The show will be at the Hybernia Theatre, tickets start at 990 CZK and you can get them through Ticketpro offices.

Public Enemy ‐ October 31, 2010

The Hip Hop revolutionaries return to Prague after a couple of years and it will surely be a concert not to be missed. Since 1982 they’ve been one of the most controversial and influential bands around with millions of fans worldwide. Come along and enjoy their distinctive sound with all the sirens, unexpected cuts and funky beats or just to see Flavor Flav, his giant watch necklace and maybe even the entourage of girls fighting for his love. All of this if going on at SaSaZu club, tickets are 550 CZK and they’re available through Ticketpro offices.
