Dance Prague – June 6 to June 29, 2011
Tanec Praha (Dance Prague) is an international festival of contemporary dance and movement theatre. The festival gives you a chance to see the big names in the world of dance and also, the not so well known but talented and innovative artists from all over the world. This year’s highlight is the piece called Sutra by the Flemish choreographer and dancer, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui. Cherkaoui created this offering at London’s prestigious Sadler’s Wells theatre together with seventeen young Buddhist monks from an original Shaolin monastery in the Chinese province of Henan. Prague Museum Night – June 11, 2011
Prague Museum night is a unique cultural event organised for you by the National Museum, Prague Public Transport and the Czech Association of Museums and Galleries. Free transport, free admission to all participating institutions and the magical time of night are the main attractions. The event starts at 19.00 and most buildings keep their doors open until at least 01.00. This year 33 institutions and over 60 buildings are participating, making their exhibitions accessible for all visitors. You can also expect a rich offering of complimentary festivities including live music, cinemas in exhibition halls, interactive art studios, creative workshops and theatrical stages. Prague Proms – June 21 to July 23, 2011
Inspired by the London BBC Proms, Prague Proms is in its seventh year and brings some of the best concerts in the world, to the city. The program is rich with classical and fusion performances of Jazz, film and more. Prague Proms is also closely linked with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra - an ensemble which has built a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. United Islands – June 23 to June 25, 2011
We’ve already had free museums in June and now it’s time for some free live music! United Islands is a traditional festival held on the islands of Vltava in the heart of Prague. Five stages will be built on Žofín, Střelecký island, Dětský island and Kampa, and at United Islands you‘ll have a chance to see over one hundred bands from fifteen countries, flying in from all over the world. The stars of the British Electro scene have also been invited this year’s United Islands festival which means you can look forward to performances from Audio Bullys, La Troba Kung Fu and Russkaja. The Czech Republic will be represented by award winning bands - the Republic of Two, Dva and Prago Union, and all of this is for free! Cut Copy – June 30, 2011
