Prague Travel Writer ‐ Krystina Svobodova

Good bye summer, welcome autumn. The heat is over now and it makes some of us happy. If you‘re the kind of person who prefers getting to know a city without crowds of people around, but still plenty of sun, September is your month. It also means the beginning of the music and the wine season. Need I say more?

Prague Wine Festival ‐ September 17 to 19, 2010

Prague has a long history when it comes to wine culture, dating back to Charles IV who founded the Royal Vineyards. Prague's glorious former vineyards are today represented by Vinohrady's name at teh festival along with the preserved vineyards at Havlicek orchard, the vineyards of saint Klára in Troja and the renewed vineyards at Vysehrad. Moravian wines have a dominant position on the domestic market nowadays and at the Prague Wine Festival you will have the unique opportunity to meet producers from the best Moravian wine regions and more importantly, taste what they have to offer! There will also be a cultural programme with folklore bands, talks and auctions going on. The festival is held on the beautiful Slovansky Ostrov island near the National Theatre. Tickets are 220 CZK and are available through Ticketpro offices.

Strings of Autumn Festival ‐ September 19 to November 21, 2010

The Strings of Autumn Festival is celebrating its 15 year anniversary and there sure is a lot to celebrate. It’s one of the most respected and loved festivals in Prague, with its eclectic mix of jazz, classical and world music, and the numerous musical discoveries it has brought. This year will present the Inspiration series and bring back some significant artists that performed at previous festivals. The settings of the concerts are exceptional as well and so far include the Rudolfinum concert hall, the National Theatre, the Estates Theatre and the Spanish Hall of the Prague Castle. The first show will be on September 19 and it will feature Jan Garbarek and Hilliard Ensemble ‐ performing at the National Memorial on Vitkov Hill. Tickets for all shows are available through Ticketpro offices.

The Cesarians ‐ September 22, 2010

Rock'n'roll has come back to life and his new partners in crime are The Cesarians. They’re British but they don’t sound like every other Arctic Monkeys wannabe out there. There's no electric guitars at all since they find them boring. However, they make enough great noise with their clarinet, trombone, piano and drums ‐ all played in Waltz time. Come along and see the cabaret on September 22 in Palac Akropolis. Tickets are 360 CZK and are available through Ticketpro offices.

David Guetta ‐ September 25, 2010

On a slightly different note ‐ if you haven’t turned on your TV or radio for the past year then you probably don’t know who David Guetta is. Loved by some, hated by others but definitely remarkable ‐ his hits like When Love Takes Over and Memories have been occupying the charts for a long time. Come along to Tesla Arena on September 25 and see for yourself what’s so special about this DJ guy. Tickets start at 1250 CZK and are available through Ticketpro.

Alfons Mucha ‐ The Apotheosis of Love throughout September, 2010

Alfons Mucha is one of the Czech Republic’s national treasures. This Art Nouveau Artist was a great painter and decorative artist, best know for his distinctive style and images of women. The Apotheosis of Love is a unique travelling exhibition on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of his birth and will be on display until September 30, 2010 in the Municipal House. The exhibition presents the whole production of the artist and besides lithographs it has his pastels, drawings, graphic works, decorative objects and photographs. Entrance fee is 150 CZK or 80 CZK for students.
