SLASH - June 8, 2010
That’s right. SLASH is back and it’s here to help us start the month with some good old rock‘n’roll! We know you secretly (or perhaps not so secretly) love Guns N’ Roses and their former solo guitarist is sure to bring their spirit, making this a party to remember. So gentlemen - get your black leather trousers ready and make sure you still fit in them. Ladies - you make sure you’re in the front row. This party will take place in Tesla Arena, tickets are 690 – 995 CZK and are available through Ticketpro offices.
Beatsteaks - June 15, 2010
Beatsteaks are a German punk-indie-alternative band that has been around for a whole 15 years - since their first performance as a support act for the Sex Pistols. Even though it has been a while, their sound is still as enjoyable and fun. In fact they’re not only maintaining the loyalty of their old fans – they’re also attracting a new crew along the road. Beatsteaks have a great reputation for their lively concerts and their mesmerizing singer Arnim certainly knows how to handle the crowds! Beatsteaks will play in one of Prague’s favourite venues - the Lucerna Music Bar. Tickets are 220 CZK and are available through Ticketpro offices.
Respect World Music Festival - June 18 to June 19, 2010
Here we have something a little bit different. This festival has been a standing fixture since 1998 and it’s THE biggest event for music lovers in Prague. It’s also inspired many similar events in the Czech Republic! This year we can dance to tunes by Orchestra Baobab from Senegal, Trio Joubran from Palestine or Assurd from Italy. The main attraction is Anthony Joseph & Spasm Band – made up of band members from Trinidad, France and the USA. Their music combines Hip Hop with African magic, Funk and Jazz, with a bit of improvisation thrown in for good measure - so it’s sure to be a unique concert! The festival will be held on the Stvanice Island on the river. Tickets are 500 CZK for both days and 400 CZK for one day. You can buy them at all Ticketpro offices.
United Islands - June 24 to June 26, 2010
This festival is my favourite not just because it attracts some of the most interesting artists from around the world but also because it’s free! The venue is unbeatable too – and as the name reveals, the event is held on the islands in the river Vltava! This year is the event’s seventh year and will feature performers from 10 countries on eight stages. There’s a lot of excitement around the opening act this year - the amazing Spanish cult singer Amparo Sánchez - founder of the band Amparonia. She’s set to present her solo album with her band on Friday, June 25 and I’ll be there dancing with a beer in my hand!
Prague Proms - June 26 to July 27, 2010
It wouldn’t be Prague if there wasn’t something for the classical music lovers in June. Just like every year the 2010 Prague Proms has a lot to offer. You can expect Beatles, Jazz, Italian arias and Hollywood movie tunes, all performed by the amazing Czech National Symphony Orchestra and their special guests. Concerts will be held in the beautiful Municipal House.
Gossip – June 26, 2010
