67th Prague Spring Music Festival – May 12 to June 3, 2012
The Prague Spring Music Festival is the number one festival of classical music in the Czech Republic and it has been, since the very start in 1946 when Czechoslovakia celebrated the first anniversary of the end of the Second World War. From here it survived many twists and changes – historical, political and cultural, but it keeps bringing the most amazing artists from around the world. This year, it will be Vasilij Petrenko conducting the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra and the Dun Huang New World Ensemble from China. Tickets are available online. (w) www.festival.cz.
Prague Marathon – May 13, 2012
If you are in town for the weekend of May 13, expect a high number of people in elastic outfits. This is all thanks to the Prague Marathon and accompanying runs such as the Family Mini Marathon or the Walk With Dogs. You should expect is changes to public transport routes and schedules during the marathin, so be sure to plan ahead. There are still a few places left, so if you are interested, head online and register yourself. (w) www.praguemarathon.com
Czech Beer Festival – May 17 to June 2, 2012
The fifth edition of the Czech Beer Festival brings with it some exciting news. The most important change is the venue as the festival will now be held in Vystaviste Holesovice – a spot that is more convenient and closer to the center than the previous benue, Letnany. There will now only be one tent with a whopping seating capacity of 10,000! The good things have not changed and you will still be able to try more than 70 brands of Czech beer, taste traditional food and enjoy service of waiters dressed in national costumes. There will be live music every day and afterparties on the weekends. The door is set to run from Monday to Sunday, between 12pm and 12am. Best of all entrance is free!
Hercules and Love Affair – May 18, 2012
Dig out your sequinned jackets, put glitter where you can and get ready to disco! The New York event created by DJ Andy Butler will return to Prague after four-years and they're determined to make you dance. The show will take place at the MeetFactory. Tickets are 551 CZK and available through Ticketpro offices.
Prague Food Festival – May 25 to May 27, 2012
The Prague Food Festival is a three-day long celebration and now a long established tradition. It's held in the beautiful gardens of Prague Castle which means there are great views to go with the great food! You can taste domestic and exotic dishes from the most interesting restaurants, including the Maurer's Grand Restaurant. There's also a rich accompanying program with a variety of workshops and tastings, including Wine Degustation, Pairing Beer with Food and Beer Taping School. Ticket numbers are limited, so I recommend buying them in advance online. Tickets cost 400 CZK which includes 250 CZK worth of tasting vouchers. (w) www.praguefoodfestival.cz.
